The Virgin Islands Bar Review Manual is a comprehensive review of the areas of the law tested on the local, essay portion of the bar exam.

The manual contains case as well as statutory law . It also has practice exams, most of which are based on actual prior exams, as well as suggested answers.

Below are some Virgin Islands points of law to note:

Restatements of the Law:
In the absence of controlling precedent or statute, the common law of the United States, as expressed in the Restatements of the Law shall be the rules of decision of the Virgin Islands.

Judicial Power:
The judicial power of the Territory of the Virgin Islands is vested in the District Court of the Virgin Islands and the Territorial Court.

Wills:
The Virgin Islands recognizes certain wills which do not meet the statutory formalities, namely Nuncupative (oral) and Holographic (handwritten) Wills.

Agency:
Agent's authority to convey real property must be in writing (e.g. power of attorney).

Domestic Relations:
Common law marriages are not recognized in the Virgin Islands.

Updated twice yearly, prior to each exam. The July manual is available May 1. The February manual is available December 1.
